Concerts with a purpose
Written by Grant Mulligan
Every element of an RSVP concert has a purpose. The sponsored charity, the music, the guest speakers and performers all work together to draw your attention to people in need in your community.

The first time I heard RSVP perform, I was sitting in the audience just like you are now. That evening, RSVP performed several pieces written for and about children. The guest performers were the Sacramento Children’s Chorus, and together with RSVP they sang in support of the Sacramento Children’s Receiving home. It was a moving evening that led me to call Julie and say, “I want to be part of RSVP.”

When we sang to benefit the international charity, Doctor’s Without Borders, we presented songs from around the world in a variety of foreign languages. We have no idea what we said, but thankfully neither did the audience.

Last year, we were brought to tears by the brave teens who spoke to us about Project HOPE and the Adolpho Program which helps foster children make the difficult transition to independent adult life.

For RSVP’s 10th Anniversary, we are honored to be working with a group whose mission is so closely aligned with Julie’s original vision for RSVP—to feed the hungry. The South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership Food Closet.
