Of our 16 singers tonight, six are founding members – Julie (our founder), Karen, Monica, Levi, Jonathan and me. When I came to my first RSVP rehearsal almost 10 years ago I was still Lin Kassouni. I had been dating Steve Walker, who came with me to that first rehearsal. He was entranced by the mission and the music and immediately volunteered to be our Sound Engineer (and is another founding member). Six months later I became Lin Kassouni Walker, and that was RSVP’s first marriage.
Since then RSVP has become a family in many ways. We have had two more marriages among our singers – Cory and Sarah Cunningham and Aaron and Tiffany Rodrigues (who, alas, have moved away). Together we have shared our joys as well as our sorrows. We have lived through four cancer battles in our RSVP family, including two of our singers, who all pulled through with flying colors. I have to say that our most fun has been with the babies of RSVP. Since the group was formed 10 years ago there have been 13 babies born to RSVP singers! Our last baby was born a day after our 2009 Spring concert to Jonathan and his wife Carol. We were sweating it out since Jonathan had a solo in that concert (and Carol was in the audience with their 3 daughters). Not only that, but baby #14 is due the day after our upcoming Spring concert (you go, Levi!). We like to say that RSVP has the most beautiful babies (no really, it’s true!). As our last song said, “We are bound in threads of joy, threads of grief, of soul. Your tears fall from my eyes; my joy rings in your laughter”. Through it all we have supported each other, and this music has been the soundtrack of our lives. Lin Kassouni Walker
